Where sustainability meets luxury

Escape into the magic of the wild Oaxacan coast

Casa Nopales

Casa Nopales is a secluded beachfront retreat on the wild Oaxaca coast, designed for deep rest and reconnection with the natural world. Immersed in a raw ocean landscape, it invites you to unplug and return to a more elemental rhythm. Architecture and nature exist in quiet dialogue, where light and wilderness shape each moment. Blending brutalist austerity with biophilic softness, the villa offers understated luxury, privacy, and stillness—where indoor and outdoor dissolve, and the surrounding landscape becomes something you feel yourself part of once more.

❋ Environment

An off-grid sanctuary where design and ecology converge—protecting fragile ecosystems while offering a refined, immersive experience of wild coastal living.

❋ Architecture

A sculptural oceanfront retreat of raw concrete, light, and air—where architecture recedes and the rhythms of landscape shape how space is lived.

❋ Surroundings

A remote coastal landscape shaped by Oaxaca’s rich living culture—where land, tradition, and everyday life continue in close relationship with nature.

❋ Our team & service

Discreet, non-intrusive service shaped around you—supported by a dedicated house manager, housekeeper, cook, and security, ensuring privacy and a seamless stay.

Environment and Sustainability

Casa Nopales offers an intimate encounter with the rhythms of the wild. From migrating whales offshore to turtles nesting and hatching on the beach, life unfolds in its full cycle. Set between the ocean, cactus jungle and lagoon, this is not curated nature, but a living ecosystem—where beauty, birth, decay, and renewal coexist. Guests are invited to witness and respect the raw, unfiltered reality of the natural world.

Set within a protected turtle nesting sanctuary, the presence of the house and its staff plays an active role in deterring poaching and supporting the continuity of this fragile ecosystem. The property itself operates as a fully off-grid, self-sustaining system—powered by solar energy and supported by ecological water and sanitation processes that return clean water to the land. Luxury here is redefined: not as excess, but as thoughtful design in service of both guest experience and environmental integrity.

Architecture

Tropical Brutalism : Casa Nopales is a sculptural oceanfront retreat on the Oaxaca coast, where the raw clarity of Brutalism meets the softness of biophilic design. Formed in concrete yet open to air, light, and landscape, the architecture is conceived as a living structure—shifting with the rhythms of the day and the movement of the elements.

Influenced by the purity of Le Corbusier, the quiet luminosity of Tadao Ando, and the organic principles of Frank Lloyd Wright, the design balances weight and openness, structure and flow. Raw materials and natural textures anchor the building, while expansive openings dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior.

The Area

Casa Nopales is set within a remote stretch of the Oaxacan coast, offering rare seclusion while remaining within reach of some of the region’s most distinctive places. Nearby Mazunte and Zipolite are known for their slow rhythm and alternative coastal culture, while Puerto Escondido offers renowned surf and a growing food and arts scene. Agua Blanca provides a more local, everyday pace of life, while San José del Pacífico and the lagoons of Lagunas de Chacahua National Park offer striking ecological contrast.

Beyond place, the region is shaped by the depth and continuity of Oaxacan culture—not as something preserved, but as something actively lived. Rooted in Indigenous traditions, particularly those of the Zapotec people and Mixtec people, daily life remains closely tied to land, craft, and community. This is expressed through markets, textiles, and a cuisine of remarkable depth.

Visitors are encouraged to approach this context with attention and respect—recognising that culture here is not a backdrop to experience, but an ongoing way of life.

What to expect from the property

Casa Nopales offers a deeply private, quietly supported stay—where service is present, but never intrusive. You will have exclusive access to the entire property, with no owners on site, allowing for complete immersion in the landscape and a true sense of seclusion. A dedicated house manager, housekeeper, and night security team maintain the home and cactus gardens with care, ensuring both comfort and peace of mind.

The experience is intentionally flexible and shaped around you. Daily rhythms are uninterrupted, with support available as needed rather than imposed. For additional comfort, bespoke services can be arranged—from a private cook preparing simple, locally inspired meals, to in-house massages, local guides, airport transfers, and grocery shopping— tailored to your preferences.

While the setting is remote and immersed in wilderness, the home remains considered and well-equipped, offering a balance between raw nature and understated luxury. Here, service does not define the experience—it quietly supports it, allowing space, stillness, and landscape to remain central…

As you can see from the pictures, the architecture is absolutely stunning—beautifully designed and thoughtfully integrated with the surrounding natural environment. But what truly makes this place special goes beyond the photos. The real luxury comes from the people, the comfort, and the deep sense of peace that comes with its secluded location.

This peaceful retreat is perfect if you’re looking to truly unwind and reconnect—with yourself or with loved ones. You fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the waves, gaze at an incredible night sky, and feel completely immersed in nature. The ocean breeze naturally cools the villa during the warmest parts of the day.

We even saw whales and crocodiles.

Everything was impeccably clean, and the layout and furniture were clearly arranged with care and intention.

A special mention to the team: Sandra prepares delicious meals, Ramses is always available to help with anything you might need, and Mylène ensures that every detail is taken care of.

The photos of Casa Nopales hint at its beauty, but you don’t truly feel it until arrival. From the moment Ramses carried our bags inside, my shoulders dropped and calm swept in. The view, the waves, birdsong, lizards darting through cactus, and utter isolation conspired to gently force zen.

My wife, young son, and I relaxed by the pool, played in the surf, watched whales offshore, and inspected newborn turtle nests. The beach, steps from the door, felt entirely ours. Aside from a few fishermen passing by, we saw no one. Ocean dips were fun on calmer days.

At night, we traced constellations beneath an inky sky and fell asleep to the waves. We rarely left, but bohemian Mazunte is relatively near, and has restaurants and shops.

The staff were flawless: Sandra’s care and cooking, Ramses’ quiet stewardship, thoughtful security, and Mylene’s seamless coordination. Emily’s vision—building such magic in such remoteness—is nothing short of extraordinary. Thank you for sharing this sanctuary.
